Forest Room 5

The thing we like most about Forest Room 5 isn't its beautiful decor, the delicious truffle fries and tuna sliders, nature specials showing on the giant projector or the $4 Guinness on tap. Nay, it's the fact that for once in our Queen city someone has realized the appropriate lighting for a bar. For once ugly people and alcoholics can mingle in Denver. Yet surprisingly, there are very few unattractive people at Forest Room. Maybe we all look better in bar lighting but it really can't help that much can it? Maybe it was the aforementioned Guinness' distorting our senses too but...nah. Forest Room is just full of babes. Staking its claim in LoHi 5 years ago, it's become one of the go-to … [More...]

EVOOmarketplace

EVOO Marketplace

The subheading on EVOO Marketplace's business card says "Fresh Gourmet Olive Oils & Balsamic Vinegars" which might make this the wankiest store in all of Denver. If it's not topping the list it sure as hell is putting up some of the strongest competition. But even though the store is literally around 50 steel canisters with spigots on them, filled with only balsamic vinegars and extra virgin olive oils, we still think it's one of the coolest little shops around, wankiness aside. With flavors of vinegar like dark chocolate, cinnamon-pear, fig and blackberry-ginger it's no surprise that when you're first introduced to tasting them, the store owners proudly suggest you take miniature … [More...]

devilsfood

Devil’s Food

You know what we just absolutely cant's stand about Devil's Food? The other customers. It's like D-Bar or some other Uptown yuppie palace threw up all over the inside. Luckily, just about everything else at Devil's Food we love, so we just sit there and judge everyone else while eating some of our very favorite brunch foods in Denver. Really, Devil's Food has a ton going for it. The baked goods are insanely delicious (though no Martine's), the coffee is usually pretty great if the right barista is there and while we've never actually ordered lunch, it looks pretty fucking fancy. What we really love at Devil's Food though is the brunch. While everyone seems to think their challah eggs … [More...]

SemionBarbershop

Semion Barbershop

Don't get the wrong gist from this review. We love our barber Brian at Ollie's. What we don't love though is how sometimes our hair gets to critical mass on a day that Brian isn't at his shop. On those days when we're ready to shave it all off because it's so ridiculous looking and we've let it go for far too long, we need a barber stat. No waiting till tomorrow, or the next day, or even until after lunch. This mop is either getting bic'd in the shower or someone new is going to have to cut it and endure our wrath when it turns out to be bullshit. But luckily for us, Semion didn't turn our hair into bullshit. In fact, it looks pretty sexy. We did have to tell the girl three times to keep … [More...]

MartinesMuffins

Martine’s Muffins

If there is one thing we miss so dearly about the other cities we've lived in, it's the ability to stumble down an alleyway or side street and find an absolute hidden gem of a bar, shop or restaurant. Sadly, Denver's great places are almost all out in the open and sitting next to each other. It's just too easy. As if the universe heard our cries for secret gardens and city exploring, it revealed Martine's Muffins to us and gave us a little hit of that old citymaholic high. Tucked in an alleyway behind Turin Bicycles and, of course, a dispensary, Martine's has opened a retail storefront. Prior to this no-fanfare opening, Martine's had been solely as wholesaler, shopping the baked goods to … [More...]
